Junior Cosmetic Chemist
Location: Florida

The Junior Chemist will report to the Senior Chemist and help in the product development, testing, analysis, and various related tasks to support the research and development process of color cosmetics.

Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the color cosmetic product development process and in cosmetic effective ingredients.
  • Assist in the development of new formulations up to the first production.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and improving current formulations.
  • Collaborate in making batches and put promising formulas up for stability testing, as well as evaluate on a weekly basis.
  • Participate in projects from inception to completion with a focus on quality and timeliness.
  • Assist in writing and improve current Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Identify new raw materials & technologies with potential benefits for cosmetics applications.
  • Assist in checking products for suitability and testing for performance under various conditions.
  • Follow industry standards and safety regulations for handling and disposing of samples.
  • Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Learn and stay current on government regulation and convey changes.
  • Communicate closely with customer service representatives to ensure everyone is updated on new developments.
  • Assist in writing technical reports to describe their method processes and findings.
  • Keep up to date with trends and innovations within the cosmetic industry.
  • Follow correct channels to address technical, or other, issues in or supporting the lab work.
  • Maintain a highly organized and accurate lab notebook of all work completed.

Experience and Requirements:

  • 3-5+ years of experience in color cosmetic makeup formulation essential.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
  • Excellent project and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Some knowledge of rules and regulations (FDA, etc.) for the formulation.
  • Some knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
  • Some knowledge of and ability to assist in scale-up and manufacturing process.
  • Experience working with color cosmetics, particularly powder and liquid cosmetics.
